Guess what?? It's LIPSTICK WEEK!!
Not nationally or anything. Just because I recently bought a bunch of lip things and I'm going to share them with this week so that it wasn't shopped in vain.
As usual, I kept seeing photos of NYX lip colors on blogs, instagram and all over Pinterest. NYX has a huge line of just about everything. Ranging from palettes to primers, foundations to glosses. They have a huge selection that rivals Revlon and L'oreal for sure! Except NYX prices are cheaper. bonus dance!! I've only seen the line carried at my local Ulta, but I recently saw it available at a beauty supply shop in a mall.
These tiny tubes are wonderful for all the right reasons! They go on smooth and feel comfortable on the lip and really do feel like butter! But not is a gross sticky way. In a slippery, moisturized way. Kinda like Kramer when he was using butter to shave. Pre cooking himself. The buttery feel keeps my lips feeling great even after the color is gone. Which will happen. They won't last as long as a stain or lipstick, but they stay a good few hours before I need to apply more color. .
I love that the tubes are plastic and super lightweight. They have a regular sponge tip applicator, which seems just fine for this product and each color packs a pigmented punch.
When I apply these, I use a full sponge tip worth on my lips and then push it in with the tip of a finger. It takes of any excess color that might pool in places. There is a lot of pigment in these colors so those areas where it pools are noticeable, but once it's pushed in, it stays looking great.
And, ahem, not only are these only 5 bucks each (less if you can catch a sale) but these won an O Award. That's right. Big O herself(through her magazines and affiliates) gave these Butter Glosses an award. So clearly these are the real deal and shant be messed with.
Each one has it's own delicious scent that matches their equally desserty treat names! I like to think that's what won Oprah over.
Tiramisu is the perfect caramel nude gloss for me and Creme Brulee would be lovely on lighter skin tones. Maple Blondie has been a go to for me since I got it! I caught myself planning my makeup around bring aple to wear it. It's come to that. I've also been layering these over lipsticks and stains and finding new combinations daily!
You were right this time, Oprah.

NYX Butter Gloss $5 each
I did buy almost the entire collection. I think I missed 3. Some part of me wants to try the other 3, but I'm in not hurry. (you'll see why over the week)

These come out with a lot of color but go on pretty sheer once you move them around. However, if the high gloss, high color thing is what you're after, these can certainly deliver. Tips for that is to majorly exfoliate your lips prior and consider a lipstick or base color to pump up the color because once you get more than 2 coats of this on, I can't imagine how it would stay in place for precise brightness. Nevertheless....here's how they look on me.
This is my bare lips. With only a touch of lip balm.
LEFT: 1 Coat RIGHT: 2 Coats
And, not all of the colors work for me, as you can see. Merengue, Creme Brulee and even Apple Strudel have just too much pale pigment in them to look right on me. They look very white and pre-death on me. So those went back. As did Cherry Pie, which is a lovely red tint and a great beginner red, but I'm not red lip novice and this doesn't have the impact I go for when I chose my red lips.Tiramisu is the perfect caramel nude gloss for me and Creme Brulee would be lovely on lighter skin tones.
