Winter snuck up on me in 2012. I know it comes every year and I love winter but this time, I wasn't prepared for it. I didn't have my winter clothes and hats and gloves, but more importantly I hadn't planned for my yearly skincare change.
My normally very dry skin turns into a season long project every winter as it turns into my eczema ridden armor to New England's cold winds and dry indoor heat. A few years ago, I picked up a tub of Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturizing Cream. $10-$12.
The heavy cream soaked into my scaly skin and made it nice and smooth and soft. The light menthol made my skin tingly and calm and gives it a sense of luxury. My first tub lasted me through an entire winter and as the days got warmer I thought I would have to switch to something much lighter but it turned out I didn't! I used my tub of Aveeno right through the year and even in hot Alabama summer heat without feeling greasy or heavy or sticky. CVS sells miracles??
After a while, I started trying out new lotions, mostly out of boredom, but my Aveeno always stays on my shelf as a backup and something to clean up the mess that other lotions left me with. Normally, I ease back into it for winter time but this time, our weather out here was so crazy that I just never got around to it. That is, until December hit and I had to go into Operation Skin Repair.
Normally, I would just swap out my lotion for the Aveeno cream but my skin....it was bad. So I decided that if layering lotions was good for my baby niece who has eczema, it would be good for me too! I started with the C. Booth Multi Action lotion, as usual, post shower. Then on top of that, I add my Aveeno Skin Relief cream. The first time I did this was after a night shower, just in case it was too heavy and gross to wear around for a day. It felt great and when I woke up, I was shocked. All my scaly gross skin was gone!! My legs were soft and smooth and just...soft!!!! The next day I did the same thing in the daytime and wore the layers under my winter tights the whole day. The tights locked it all in and by nighttime my skin was amazingly soft and smooth!
I've skipped the Aveeno layer on a few days and at first haven't noticed a difference, but after day 3, I start getting scaly again, so I go back to the routine and it works great.
I'm assuming that there are other people who are as emotionally attached to this cream as I am since it's been on the market for a while now. There is new packaging but the formala is still great. Usually when I find something I love this much someone discontinues it on me. But for this one I will fight. I would most definitely start a letter campaign following the discontinuation of this.
I hope you're reading this Aveeno! Don't make me write a letter!
